EA Sports announced today that the soccer title it publishes in 2023 would be part of the brand new EA Sports FC brand Mut 23 Coins, eliminating the FIFA brand the series used since the days it’s predecessors the Sega Genesis and Super NES. This announcement is a major departure from one of the oldest and most popular continuously franchises in the history of video games.

“We’re thankful for our long-running partnership with FIFA,” EA CEO Andrew Wilson said in a statement. “The future of global football is bright and fandom around the world is at its highest ever. We have an amazing chance to put EA Sports FC at the top of the game, and to provide even better and more authentic experiences to the growing soccer fanbase.”

The game, which will be FIFA-less, will include “more than 300 licensed individual partners, providing players with access to more than 19,000 athletes across 700 teams, 100 stadiums and more than 30 leagues all over the world.” These partners include major international leagues like The Premier League, LaLiga, Bundesliga, UEFA, CONMEBOL, and other leagues.

Aside from the name printed on the packaging, the new released game will also be devoid of any official reference in World Cup. World Cup, the quadrennial international tournament run by FIFA. EA worked with FIFA to launch themed FIFA World Cup titles every four years starting in 1998 and continuing through 2014. It also introduced a unique World Cup mode to its profitable Ultimate Team digital card game for FIFA 14. This integration was extended to an even larger World Cup update in FIFA 18.

Reports suggest FIFA 23–which is expected to be released later this year and will be EA’s final title under the FIFA license — will further extend its World Cup mode and include the Women’s World Cup for the first time in the history of the franchise Madden 23 Coins Buy. “Our final FIFA product will also contain more game modes, features, teams leagues, teams, players and competitions than any previous version,” EA said in an announcement.
