Scarlet Witch has always been associated with luxury, riches, and power. First recorded in Persian and Assyrian sources in the eighth century BC, carmine dye was known by the name Armenian Red. From Persia, the hue was brought to Rome. This color was second only to the purple worn by emperors throughout the Roman Empire. High-ranking individuals were referred to as coccinati, or red-skinned men, and officers donned crimson robes known as paludamenta.
