It was not this year’s Super Bowl, but tens of thousands of people were able to mut coins watch the live performance of Velazquez, and a replay of the contest has been logged more than 340,000 views on the streaming site Twitch.

Officials from Washington’s high schools esports association believe that Velazquez is the first state’s national champion in esports. In the midst of the epidemic that kept the students away from video games, Lake Stevens High School experienced an increase in popularity.

“People were already interacted with one another digitally, and it seemed like a natural extension of that,” explained Trevor Wood, an 11th-grade English teacher and advisor to the school’s video game club. “The school as well as the district were extremely interested in seeing the success of the video gaming club because it was one of the ways in which kids could interact with each other socially.”

A recent surge in popularity for the game “Among Us,”” an online multiplayer contest which attracted Velazquez and many others to join the club. Before COVID-19, Wood claimed that the video game club had fewer than 10 members. The group now has around 60 members. joined the group’s discussion channel.

This year, the club also dove into the competitive aspect of buy madden coins gaming, challenging high schoolers across Washington and across the country with a range of esports.
